How to Print Coloring Pages

Printing one of our coloring pages takes about a minute. Every drawing is a one-page PDF on US Letter paper (8.5 by 11 inches) with a white margin around the art and the page title printed at the bottom.

  1. Download the PDF. Press "Download free PDF" under the drawing you want. Nothing to sign up for, and the file is yours to keep.
  2. Open it. Any PDF viewer works: the one built into your browser, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview on a Mac, or the Files app on a phone.
  3. Print. On Letter paper choose "Actual size" or 100%. On A4 choose "Fit to page", which shrinks the drawing by about 3% so nothing is cut off at the sides. Black and white or grayscale is all you need.

Paper that suits the job

  • Ordinary 80 gsm (20 lb) copy paper is fine for crayons and colored pencils.
  • Felt-tip markers and gel pens bleed through thin paper. Use 120 to 160 gsm, or put a spare sheet underneath.
  • Watercolor and finger paint need card stock or watercolor paper, or the page curls as it dries.
  • For ornaments, bookmarks or anything that will hang on a wall, print on card stock.

Printing a whole collection

Each gallery has a "Download the complete coloring book" button. The book is a single PDF with a cover, a few pages of tips and every drawing in the gallery, one per page. To print part of it, type a page range in your print dialog (for example 4-12). Print single-sided if anyone will use markers, since ink on the back shows through.

Printing from a phone or tablet

Open the PDF, tap the share icon and choose Print. Most home printers made in the last few years appear in that list over Wi-Fi. If yours does not, save the file and send it to a computer.

When something looks wrong

  • Lines look faint or broken: switch off "Draft" or "Toner save" mode in the printer settings.
  • The edge of the drawing is missing: you are probably printing on A4 at 100%. Choose "Fit to page".
  • The PDF opens in a browser tab instead of saving: that is normal. Print straight from the tab with its printer icon, or use its download arrow to keep a copy.
