These are our own little monster friends, not copies of anyone else's. You will meet a fluffy electric mouse cub, a fire lizard with a flame on its tail, a leafy seed creature, a splashing water turtle, a bushy fire fox, a floating star, a friendly ghost blob and more. Two pages are extra easy for toddlers, and one is packed with patterns for older colorists.

Coloring ideas for your pocket monsters

Half the fun is deciding what color each creature should be. The electric mouse looks great in bright yellow with red cheeks, the fire lizard in orange with a yellow flame, and the water turtle in blue and green. But nothing is fixed here: a purple mouse and a pink turtle are just as much fun, and a whole team of differently colored creatures looks brilliant taped to a wall. Keep the big body one flat color so the small details, the eyes, cheeks and claws, stand out. Markers need thicker paper (cardstock) so they do not bleed through; crayons and pencils are happy on plain printer paper.

Which page should you print first?

For toddlers, start with the easy round creature: extra-thick lines, big open areas, nothing fiddly. Kids from about four to eight usually go straight for the electric mouse, the fire lizard and the water turtle. Older kids and grown-ups tend to pick the patterned dragon, which colors like a mandala and can fill a whole evening. Throwing a party? Print a stack of the electric mouse and hand out yellow and red pencils.
