What is inside this collection

Coloring ideas for an underwater scene
Water gives you permission to use colors you would never put on a land drawing, so start with the tail. Teal into violet, or lime into turquoise, looks like real fish scales if you keep each row of scales one shade apart instead of coloring the whole tail flat. Hair is the second big decision: seafoam green, coral pink and silver blue all work, and a single warm color in the hair makes it pop against a cool tail. Leave the pearls and the bubbles almost white with one light grey edge and they will read as shiny. For backgrounds, a pale blue wash behind everything ties the page together, and a few darker blue streaks at the top suggest sunlight coming down through the water. Markers need thicker paper (cardstock) so they do not bleed through; crayons, pencils and gel pens are happy on plain printer paper. More advice is in our how-to-print guide.
The best page for every age
Toddlers should start with Easy Mermaid: extra thick lines, one big friendly figure and three round bubbles, nothing fiddly. Kids from about four to eight usually go straight for the dolphin, the seahorse ride, the baby mermaid in her shell cradle and the treasure chest.
