The fairy tale behind these pages
Rapunzel is the girl from the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale, famous for the tall stone tower and the impossibly long braid she lets down from her window. Every drawing here comes from that storybook world and is drawn in our own studio line style: the tower in the forest clearing, the braid woven full of flowers, the songbirds, the kitten and a starry night at the tower window. You will not find scenes copied from any film here, only the tale as picture books have told it for two hundred years.
Coloring ideas for Rapunzel's world
The braid is the star, so give it a rich golden yellow and a few brighter highlights so it shines against the gray stones of the tower. Storybook dresses look lovely in soft rose, sky blue or spring green, and the flowers woven into the braid are your chance to use every bright color in the box. For the tower, try warm grays and sandy browns with ivy green climbing the walls, and leave the sky pale blue by day or deep indigo with golden stars for the night scene. Markers need thicker paper (cardstock) so they do not bleed through; crayons and pencils are happy on plain printer paper.
