Gowns are the fun part, so start there. Pick two or three colors that look good together (pink with gold, lavender with mint, sky blue with silver) and keep the biggest area the lightest so the details stand out. Crowns and jewelry love yellow, gold or orange, and a touch of yellow around them reads as sparkle. Backgrounds can stay white for a clean storybook look, or get a soft wash of blue sky and green grass. If you color with markers, print on slightly thicker paper (cardstock) so nothing bleeds through; crayons and pencils are happy on regular printer paper.
Which princess should you print first?
For toddlers, start with the easy design, with extra-thick lines and big open areas made for first-time colorists. Kids around four to eight usually reach for the story scenes: the tea party, the friendly frog at the pond or the twirling ball gown. Older kids and grown-ups love the patterned gown, which colors like a mini mandala. Hosting a princess party? Print a stack of the castle balcony and crown-and-mirror pages and you have an instant activity table.
